Transport FAQ

You can be dropped off near the Sydney CBD and walk to Hyde Park, however this is not recommended due to the large crowds and significant road closures in place on race morning. Public transport remains the easiest and most reliable way to reach the start area.

Dedicated event shuttle buses will operate from Bondi Beach to Bondi Junction throughout the day, where you can connect to Sydney Trains services. Please allow extra time, as queues are expected, particularly from 11:00am onwards when large numbers of participants arrive at the finish.

The most up-to-date road closure information is available in the City2Surf app and on the Traffic Impact page. Major roads from Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach will be closed, with closures beginning as early as 3:30am near Hyde Park and progressively reopening throughout the day.

Due to extensive road closures and very limited parking around Bondi Beach, supporters are encouraged to use public transport wherever possible. If driving, please plan ahead and expect delays, detours and restricted parking throughout the day.

We strongly recommend using public transport to get to the start area. With extensive road closures and limited parking, trains, metro, buses and light rail are the easiest way to reach Hyde Park. The City2Surf app includes transport information, while detailed travel options can also be found on the Event Day Information page.

Included Transport

We're making it easier for participants to travel to and from Voltaren City2Surf!

Travel on public transport is covered for Voltaren City2Surf participants & volunteers on the following transport services. Just show your race bib or volunteer pass to transport staff when boarding services!

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services * (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
  • Sydney metropolitan, outer metropolitan route buses and special event shuttle bus services
  • Sydney Metro services
  • Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle Light Rail services
  • Sydney and Newcastle Ferries

Remember to keep your race bib or pass safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card or contactless payment method, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Getting There

With extensive road closures and limited parking, the best way to get to and from Voltaren City2Surf is by public transport.

Early morning services will run across all transport modes to help you get to the start line. There are plenty of major public transport hubs within short walking distance of the start line around Hyde Park.

Public transport to the start line:

  • Red, Pink & Charity groups: Catch a train to Town Hall, St James or Museum; catch metro to Gadial and exit via Park Street; use light rail or catch a bus to QVB/Town Hall.
  • Green & Blue groups: Catch a train to Town Hall or St James; catch metro to Martin Place; use light rail to Town Hall; or catch a bus to Elizabeth Street.
  • Purple & Yellow groups: Catch a train to Town Hall or Museum; catch metro to Gadigal and exit via Bathurst Street; use light rail or catch a bus to QVB/Town Hall.
  • Orange group arriving before 8.30am: Catch a train or metro to Martin Place; use light rail to Wynyard; or catch a bus to Martin Place or Wynyard.
  • Orange group arriving after 8.30am: Catch a train to Town Hall or St James; catch metro to Martin Place; use light rail to Town Hall; or catch a bus to Elizabeth Street. 

Express shuttle buses will also run for participants only from Bondi Beach (leaving from Bondi Rd near Sandridge St) to St James Station between 6am and 8.30am to get you within walking distance of the start area.

Keep in mind that buses between the city and Eastern Suburbs will be diverting from their regular routes and using different stops while road closures are in place. Plan ahead, allow extra travel time and if you are bringing a pram, we kindly ask you fold down your pram before getting on the bus.

Limited early morning ferries will run to Circular Quay on race morning. Change at Circular Quay for a bus or light rail to get to the start area or consider the 1.6km walk.

Parking

City Parking 

Parking at the Domain carpark and 175 Liverpool Street in Sydney CBD. Be sure to pre-book your parking space through Wilson Parking.

The Domain car park is available 24-hours and while spots are still available will incur a flat weekend rate when booked through the Domain app. This is not a special arrangement for the event. 

Bondi Junction Parking 

  • At Eastgate Bondi Junction there is a $20 all day parking rate available on the roof top only. This is not a special arrangement for the event. 
  • Westfield Bondi Junction also offer 2hr free parking, and Westfield Members receive 3hrs free parking on weekends.

Getting Home

Roads around the finish area at Bondi Beach remain closed until 4pm so the best way to get home is by public transport.

Dedicated event shuttle buses will run frequently from Campbell Parade at the southern end of Bondi Beach direct to Bondi Junction where you can connect with Sydney Trains services to continue your trip home.

Please keep in mind that long queues for shuttle buses are expected, particularly from 11am when large numbers of participants arrive at the finish line. Please be patient or consider making the 35-minute (2.7km) walk to Bondi Junction if you can or enjoy the many local venues after your run to avoid the crowds! Charter Buses

Planning on organising a chartered bus/coach for your group? Please take note of the below for layover and pickup

Charter Bus/Coach Layover

A designated layover area for charter buses and coaches is available in Rose Bay on the eastern side of O’Sullivan Road, between Bunyula Road and Old South Head Road, adjacent to Woollahra Golf Course.

Access to the layover area is via Birriga Road, Bundarra Road, right onto Blaxland Road, right onto Bunyula Road the right onto O’Sullivan Road. Buses/coaches should park at the southern end of O’Sullivan Road (closest to Old South Head Road) and line up in order of arrival.

Please note that there are low and overhanging tree branches along the route and within the layover area. Only single-deck buses can safely pass beneath these trees; double-decker buses are not recommended. Operators are responsible for assessing whether the route and layover area are suitable for their vehicles.

Bondi Beach pick-up information

The only designated group pick-up point is located on the northern side of Blair Street, between Glenayr Avenue and Mitchell Street, outside Galilee Primary School (Stop ID: 202669). Curlewis Street departure stop from previous years is no longer available.

The Blair Street stops can only accommodate one bus at a time and buses are not permitted to wait or layover at this stop. Drivers should remain at the O’Sullivan Road layover until contacted by the group leader, confirming the group is ready for pick-up.

Bus and coach operators are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are suitable for the route. Transport for NSW is not liable for any damage caused by trees or other roadside obstacles.
